    - I believe some of the positive effects of a white lie could be to assist in the explanation of the issue to the customer in a less complicated manner however a 'white lie' should never cost the customer money because you decided not to either properly investigate the issue or simply wanted to over charge.

    - The negative consequences of a white lie is typically a loss of trust between the customer and the business and or technician. typically if a lie is discovered the customer will call a different service technician or company the next time they have issues in hopes the next technician will be better able to serve their needs.

  2. The only positive effect that I can see a white lie having is that it will avoid hurting someone's feeling's. If the customer you are dealing with has a big ego or intellectual pride and you start using terms that we use in industry to explain what is wrong with there system they may get irritated or mad. In this situation I would tell a white lie so it makes them happy. This white lie will make both the customer and technician happy, which is a positive thing.
There is a lot of negative consequences that can happen from a white lie. The first that comes to mind is business. If you get caught by the customer in the lie they will think that you (and the company) are untrustworthy. If the company is untrustworthy they will not get any business. Also the customer could tell friends and family about there experience and they too might choose to do business somewhere else. This ties in with trust. If a customer doesn't trust you they will not use you again, which means less money is being made for you and the company. These are some of the negative consequences that can happen from telling a white lie,. Not only are you hurting your relationship with the customer. It hurts the customer and companies relationship and it hurts everyone's pocket book

  3. Some positive effects of a white lie is that in can protect you, your company and your customers. If you come into a job and notice a problem was not fixed and you know a co-worker was there before you and missed something, I think it would be a good thing to tell the customer a white lie to protect your co-worker and the competency of your company. As long as the customer doesn't figure it out then they will still trust your judgement.

A negative effect would be gouging your customer for money using a lie. If you had a broken defrost timer and tell a customer their compressor was hit by lightning and needed a whole new unit then this would definitely be a negative effect.

  4. The positive effects of telling a white lie to a customer can be plentiful. Depending on the lie, it can help to calm down the customer in moments of panic, or it could be to help cover a co-worker who may have missed something on the previous visit.

On the other side, if a customer sees through on of your lie they will become distrustful of everything you say, even for the smallest lie. Customers want an honest technician that they trust so that they do not have to worry about being swindled for money. This will cause them to take their business elsewhere which is bad for you.

  5. Telling a customer a white lie may be beneficial in a troubleshooting situation. Not every one can figure out the problem right away, so you may need more time. Being honest with them and telling them you haven't found the issue yet may not be the best way to go about things. It may make you seem incompetent, and your company as well, even though that isn't true.

Of course a negative effect of telling a white lie is that it makes you seem dishonest. A customer may not want to call you back again if they think you're someone who tells lies. Even though they may not understand that you're telling a lie to help them, they still hear it as a straight lie.

  6. 1) Positive effects of telling a 'white lie' What may seem like a positive effect is actually negative. BS may get you to the top but it wont keep you there. By telling the truth and presenting it in a professional manner is the only way to establish a working reputation to build a career.

    2) Customers and other Technicians in time will come to look at a person telling white lies as untrustworthy. "this world is rough and you gotta be tough if your gonna make it" - Johnny Cash. You have to own up to your truths, whether you are wrong or right.

  7. The positive effects of telling a white lie could be that you protect yourself and company from any mistakes that could have been made during the installation or previous service work.

The negative effects of telling a white lie could be that you lose that customer if they discover that you are lying and could even cost you your job and the opportunities at other jobs if you are deemed untrustworthy. I believe that a good technician doesn't need to tell any kind of lie as long as they are confident in their work and don't take any shortcuts.

  8. A white lie can be used to protect yourself, co-workers, and possibly even the customer. If you were to get in a situation where say for instance you didn't know how to fix a system that wasn't running properly, it would not be beneficial for you or your company to tell the customer that you "did not know" how to fix it. Instead an appropriate white lie would be to tell them you needed something from your truck and when you get to your truck away from the customer, call someone who can tell you how to fix the problem.
If a co worker made a mistake on the job, instead of telling the customer they made a mistake it would be in the best interest of the reputation of your company to cover for them and fix the problem without throwing them under the bus.
If a customer says something about the system that is incorrect, it would not be wise to tell them they are wrong, instead agree with them and then try to work in the correct way to do whatever it is was mentioned, you don't want them to feel stupid.

From the opposite perspective a smart customer will know when they are being lied to and can tell when you are giving them BS. Which would make you seem dishonest and uninformed. This could result in your companies reputation to be tarnished

Some positives of a white lie are:
You could be buying yourself time to get to the root of the problem, another would be just to save time with explanations to the customer.
    Negatives:
It could become a bad habit and eventually catch up to you, and if caught it will give you and our company a bad name
